Blogtober Wrap Up/Update

blogtober

Annnnnndddddd that’s a wrap on Blogtober 2018!!!!! I officially posted every single day in October. I will say some posts were later than usual and others just barely made it up on certain days. If you participated in Blogtober, I hope you were able to complete the goals you set for yourself!! If you didn’t, that’s a-okay. Sometimes life happens and we have to roll with it!

Update: I just realized I didn’t post anything on the 5th….what the world?!?!?!?! I wonder if I did the “schedule date” wrong or just completely forgot for that day. Well…rats!!! A-for effort I suppose lol!!!

Up next:

In the last few months of 2018 I plan to read whatever I want. I really want to concentrate on Kindle Unlimited and books I own. It’s silly to keep buying more and more books and never reading the ones I already own. It’s also goofy to let Kindle Unlimited just sit there month after month without reading anything from it.

I also really want to wrap up some YA series that I’ve started. I only have 1 book left on a ton of series so it’s time to finish them. Another thing on my list is to continue with my re-read of the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas.

I think I only have 1 more ARC that I signed up to read for the rest of the year. That should help lessen the pressures of reading.

Blogmas is just around the corner and I cannot wait to participate!!! I look forward to the Christmas season every year. It’s my favorite time of year. I practically listen to Christmas music year round so it’s nice to be able to listen without people yelling at me lol!!!

Goals:

My goal for the rest of the year is to reach 1,000 followers on my blog. I’m currently at 930 with 70 more to go. If you could help me reach my goal, I would be forever grateful!!!!! Thank you to everyone for all your love and support. I love blogging and talking about books with all of you guys!!! The blogging/reader world is just the best!!!

I hope you all have an amazing and safe Halloween!! May you get to eat all your candy favorites!!! Save me some Kit Kat bars and Twix please ❤

Stacking the Shelves | 3

Stacking the Shelves

Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. Stacking the Shelves is about sharing the books you’re adding to your shelves. You can include books you buy in a physical store or online, books your borrow from the library or friends, review books, gifts and eBooks.

*Clicking each cover will take you to its Goodreads page*

Purchased:

Amazon had a sale for the first two books in the Throne of Glass series. I grabbed them because I figured $2.99 is the cheapest they will go down to.

Throne of Glass (Throne of Glass, #1)

Crown of Midnight (Throne of Glass, #2)

Amazon also had this R.S. Grey book on sale for $1.49. I’ll take anything by this author!

Not So Nice Guy

I’m in the process of getting this series in e-book format. It’s rare that any of these go on sale so I was super surprised this was $1.99

McKettrick's Choice (McKettricks, #4)

Freebies:

I’m not sure whether or not this series is for me but this one was free so I got it.

Preppy: The Life & Death of Samuel Clearwater, Part One (King, #5)

I stumbled upon this series on Net Galley. This is the first novella in the series and it was free on Amazon.

Once Upon a Bride

Summoning Spell Tag

blogtober

The goal of this tag is to list books that are required to summon you. This tag was created by Bee over at BookishPisces . I was tagged by the lovely Lorryn at Reading Parental. You can check out her post here.

Getting Schooled (Getting Some, #1)

Two words: Garrett Daniels. This book far exceeded my expectations. If you like romance, I cannot recommend this enough.

High Country Bride (McKettricks, #1)

This is a historical romance that I read almost every single year. Linda Lael Miller has such a knack for writing great western/historical romances.

Reckless

I’m a sucker for a single dad whose amazing with his kids. If this is your thing too, I recommend trying this for sure!

The Deal (Off-Campus, #1)

YASSSS to this book! Ironically his name is Garrett too (just like the first book I mentioned). This is a hockey romance and it’s STEAMY!!!

Scoring Wilder

Scoring Wilder is a sports romance involving a coach/college student. It’ll knock your socks off, I promise!!

A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)

I saved the best for last. You guys know my love for this book, especially for the character Cassian. This book has just about everything you could need wrapped up into one amazing package.

I really tried to narrow this down to 5 books but I just couldn’t. I barely got this down to 6 lol!! Any of these books would summon me for sure!! These are my favorites that I could read OVER and OVER. What books would be required to summon you?! Let me know in the comments below or link me to your post!!

Guess That Synopsis | 1

Guess that synopsis

I’m sure I’m not the first one to come up with this idea BUT I haven’t seen it floating around. I thought this would be a fun idea to try and guess what a book is about strictly based on the cover. If you or someone you know is already doing this, that’s 100% great!! I’m not trying to steal your thunder by any means. To my knowledge, I haven’t seen this so I came up with my own title and decided to post it. If you want to join in, feel free to do so 🙂

I’ll be grabbing books from Google, Goodreads, friends, etc. At the end of my guess, I’ll post what the book is actually about and see how close I was. Alright, let’s get started!!!

The Book:

Can't Text This

My Guess:

Alrighty, first book is one I grabbed off Goodreads by searching “New Adult 2018”. I’ve never heard of this book or the author.

I’m guessing this is a romance where one character texts the wrong number and they start a flirty back and forth banter. Based on the cover, this screams bad boy to me lol!!! Maybe the guy was meaning to text someone a hook up message and it goes to this random person.

Actual Synopsis:

“Hi Monty. Wanna see my python?”

That’s how I ended up in the bathroom of some dive bar with a stranger.

Me, Monty Andrews, the quintessential virgin girl next door.

I was so out of my element, but there was no denying our explosive attraction, even via text.

Commence Operation Bang Each Other Out of Our Systems, because that was all it was—unfinished business.

I had no intention of falling back into the sheets with the tattooed, muscly, dirty-in-the-best-kind-of-way single dad over and over again…but I did.

Everything was going great—until we discovered I was his son’s teacher.

Verdict:

So….we know a sexy text started their hook ups….It also talks about their attraction via text…. I’ll say I’m sort of close to the actual synopsis. Plus the guy is a tattooed, muscly, dirty single dad so that counts as a bad boy right?!??!

Let me know what you think about this post in the comments below. Did you think I did a good job guessing the synopsis or was I totally off base in your opinion??

Thrillers I Want To Read

blogtober

I’m not big on reading spooky/scary books. But I do enjoy a good thriller/suspense book from time to time though. These are a few books that are on my list to try.

A Stranger in the House

I read and really enjoyed Shari’s debut novel, The couple next door. Since I enjoyed it so well, I want to continue reading books by this author. This one sounds super exciting and I can’t wait to read it!!

An Unwanted Guest

Surprise!! Another one by this author. I want to read this one for the same reasons listed in the book above ^

Untraceable (Tracers, #1)

I haven’t read this author before but my friend Stacie highly recommended this book to me. It’s a romantic suspense so hopefully it’s the best of both genres ❤

The Wife Between Us

Everything about this synopsis draws me in!! I cannot wait to read this!

The Flight Attendant

I recently won this book on an Amazon giveaway. I’m hoping it’s not too scary because I’m practically a baby when it comes to these types of books lol!!!

The Sleepwalker

I also want to try this book by the same author as the book mentioned previously. I’m hoping I’ve found a new thriller author to love.

The Marriage Lie

My sister in law read this and said it was really good. Fingers crossed that I love it just as much as she did.

These are a few of the thrillers I have on my TBR. If you want, you can leave some recommendations below. Just remember that I can’t handle SUPER scary things. No Stephen King allowed lol!

Romance Authors I haven’t tried

blogtober

Here’s the thing, I have several authors that I haven’t gotten around to trying yet. I’ve mainly been exploring the New Adult genre but I’m still fairly new to it. I tend to bounce back and forth from New Adult to Adult romances. I was reading a lot of Young Adult books but found myself not enjoying them as much as I once did.

With all that being said, here are some popular romance writers that are on my list to try:

  1. Sarina Bowen
  2. Melanie Harlow
  3. Lauren Dane
  4. J. Daniels
  5. Rachel Van Dyken
  6. Jen Frederick
  7. VI Keeland
  8. Corinne Michaels
  9. Penelope Douglas
  10. Kennedy Ryan
  11. Jay Crownover
  12. Kennedy Fox
  13. Lauren Blakely
  14. K. Bromberg
  15. Maya Banks
  16. Donna Grant
  17. Penelope Ward
  18. Mariana Zapata
  19. L.J. Shen
  20. Melanie Scott

Let me know your favorite New Adult/Adult romance authors!! You could also include your favorite series because more than likely, I haven’t had a chance to read them yet.

Review: Tiebreaker by P. Dangelico

Tiebreaker

Tiebreaker by P. Dangelico

3 Stars

This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.

This book was a whirlwind of emotions. I went through moments of wanting to DNF to moments of crying. This was a new author for me and I’m still not sure my thoughts on her writing. In some cases, I really enjoyed the writing, in others….I was cringing. Some of the dialogue wasn’t the best. It felt like some of the lingo was like a dad trying to sound hip to his teenage daughter and her friends lol. I also wasn’t a fan of the back and forth time flashes. If it had a subtitle letting me know when it was happening, I would have been able to catch on easier. I did read an arc of this so maybe that will be included in the final copy.

As far as the story goes, it had its ups and downs. The whole book is us trying to figure out why Noah and Maren are at odds. Why does she hate him? The thing is, this drug on forever. It was to the point where I was losing interest in the book because of the suspense of it all. I will say the last quarter or so of this book really made the book for me. This is where the truth comes out and we can finally tackle this book long issue.

I was also a fan of all the side characters. Rowdy, Knox, Jana, Katya, etc. They really added to the overall reading experience. I will say, I didn’t vibe with Maren. Sorry, not sorry. She came off super childish and bratty. At least towards the end, she became a better person and I started to care more for her charter. I realized why she was the way she was, but still…it wasn’t the easiest to read.

Overall, I found moments to be cliche throughout the story. I could see things coming from a mile away so that was a bit disappointing. Some of the dialogue was off putting as well. BUT, that last quarter of the book was so good. That was what I needed for the entire story, not just the last section. I just hate it took so long for me to enjoy it.

Review: The Art of French Kissing by Brianna R. Shrum

The Art of French Kissing

The Art of French Kissing by Brianna R. Shrum

2 Stars

This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.

This story almost felt like two different stories in one. The first half we have students competing in a cooking competition. Two of the students, Carter and Reid, clash immediately upon meeting each other. This sets off a chain reaction of sabotage and psychological warfare. I absolutely enjoyed the cooking aspects to this book. I love me some Food network and this was identical to their challenges. It was fun to see how they would react to each of the challenges and the drama that went along with the students.

As I was saying, we had parts of Carter and Reid loathing each other to the maximum. It had bits of flirty undertones to it but nothing major. About halfway through, things shift. Suddenly Carter and Reid have feelings for each other and don’t know how to deal with it. I will say, I didn’t like the zero to sixty with their relationship. I didn’t feel we had enough time to go along with their relationship turning more romantically. It starts to feel super awkward and super rushed. It just didn’t flow very well in my opinion.

I think one of my issues with this book was my dislike for Carter. She felt very selfish but at the same time self conscious? It was a weird combination for sure. I kept getting whiplash with her reactions to things. It was like she would be mad that someone wasn’t taking her opinion into consideration, but then when they said go with whatever you like…she was pissed they weren’t helping? I didn’t get it….

Reid on the other hand was a sweetheart. I really enjoyed his character. He would surprise Carter by cooking her special things so she could experience them for the first time. It melted my heart. I also love how supportive he was. I think Carter could take a few lessons from him on that.

Overall, this story had so much potential. I did like it but certain things just overshadowed it. I would still like to try other books by this author and see how they go.
