Reading Goals for the New Year

I saw this prompt on Fictionally Sam’s blog and just had to do it as well. It was originally hosted by Lauren on Northern Plunder. Check out both of their sites to see their goals for 2019!

Finish re-read of the Throne of Glass series.

I wanted to re read the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas in preparation for the final book Kingdom of Ash’s release. Did I read them all in time?! NOPE!! I did manage to read the novella bind up at least lol!!

Read 100 books.

Will this be the year I finally reach 100 books?! I sure hope so!! I want to achieve this just once and then I don’t care how many books I read from then on….

Read more Kindle Unlimited books.

I have Kindle Unlimited through April 2019 and I really want to get my gift’s worth from it. I haven’t been using it much due to ARCs but I really should since I was gifted an entire year’s worth.

Read more books I own.

I’m like every other reader out there and I own 900 million books. They sit there year after year not being read and that’s just silly. Time to read them or donate them!

I think that’s enough goals for the New Years! I don’t want to load myself down too much and not fulfill ANY of these. What are you 2019 reading goals?! Let me know in the comments below or link me to your blog post!

Bookish Naughty or Nice Tag

Yes, this is a Christmas post and yes, I know it’s the New Years lol!! I’ve been on my blogging break but I already had this post ready to go so it’s going live haha. I was tagged by Jenna at J.K. I’m exploring. Be sure and swing by her post to see her answers for this one as well. This tag was originally created by Jenn.

  • Tag & link the person who tagged you
  • Tag & link me/this post
  • Tick/cross off the ones you’ve done
  • Tag another 10 people

1. Received an ARC and not reviewed it

I think all bloggers are guilty of doing this. It’s really hard to balance everything that a blogger does. That’s not even factoring in their real lives and all that goes on with their day to day schedules.

2. Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

I’m currently sitting at 46%. I feel so bad about it and want to play catch up in the New Year.

3. Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did) ✖️

I tend to review every single book I read. If I don’t plan on writing up a full review, then I won’t promise to.

4. Folded down the page of a book ✖️

NOPE. I’ve never done this and don’t plan to start. I like to keep my books in as good as condition as I possibly can.

5. Accidentally spilled on a book ✖️

NOPE. I don’t tend to leave books where they could potentially get something spilled onto them.

6. DNF a book this year

Torn by Melody Anne and American Queen by Sierra Simone were my DNF’s for 2018. Just couldn’t get into either of these.

7. Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it ✖️

I don’t think I’ve intentionally purchased a book without planning to read it. I may have bought a book and ended up not reading it…….but I’ve never bought one to just sit on the shelf and look pretty. Books are too expensive for all that.

8. Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework)

Of course, every bookworm is guilty of this!!

9. Skim read a book ✔✖️

Does this mean the entire thing??? I don’t think I’ve skimmed an entire book before. Sure I’ve skimmed parts…. but never the whole story.

10. Completely missed your Goodreads goal

Every single year my goal is to read 100 books. Every year I fail lol!!! It’s not that I don’t try….it’s just my eyes won’t let me!!!

11. Borrowed a book and not returned it to the library ✖️

This is a big no-no!!! I’ve never even had a late fee.

12. Broke a book buying ban

Been there, done that!

13. Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about ✖️

NOPE. This is why as soon as I finish a book, I write the review. My memory isn’t the best so I have to write that review ASAP before the entire story disappears lol!!

14. Wrote in a book you were reading ✖️

NOPE. Another big no-no for me.

15. Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads✔✖️

I only started using Goodreads in 2013 so there’s plenty of books that aren’t on there. Now since I’ve created the account they will all go on there without fail.

16. Borrowed a book and not returned it to a friend✖️

How cruel is this…..don’t do it!

17. Dodged someone asking if they can borrow a book

YES!!! I really don’t like loaning out my books because there’s always a chance for them to be ruined….then it becomes an awkward conversation on whether or not they’ll pay to replace it.

18. Broke the spine of someone else’s book ✖️

19. Took the jacket off a book to protect it and ended up making it more damaged ✖️

I always take the hardcover’s book jacket off and place it somewhere not around me to prevent this from happening.

20. Sat on a book accidentally

I’m sure I have before.

Final Score: 8/20

(On 2 I put both answers so I just left them off the final score)

I think I’m on the Nice list this year!!!! Woohoo!!! Feel free to do this tag as well and leave your links below!!

Memorable Titles That Start With “G”

Getting Schooled (Getting Some, #1)

Words cannot express how much I loved this book. GAHHHH!! It was perfection!! I could read it over and over without getting tired of it.

Glass Sword (Red Queen, #2)

This book had me on the edge of my seat for literally every single page!! I’m not even kidding. It was so much more than I expected from a sequel.

The Great Pursuit

I don’t know what happened but I fell in love with EVERYONE in the book. I wasn’t feeling a lot of relationships in book one but somewhere along the way I fell in love with ALL of them.

Books Starting With “G” On My TBR

The Goal (Off-Campus, #4)

I still can’t believe I haven’t read this one yet. I really enjoyed the first 3 in this series so I need to hurry up and read this to wrap up everything.

Review: Arrow’s Hell by Chantal Fernando

Arrow's Hell (Wind Dragons MC, #2)

Arrow’s Hell by Chantal Fernando

3 Stars

This is another case of liking the story but not so much the couple. More specifically, the main guy Arrow. I think you can be an alpha and still be respectful and loving to your significant other. An alpha to me is protective, sometimes too much, but he’s not a jerk to his other half. I ran into issues with Arrow thinking he could do whatever he wants but Anna, his love interest, was on a short leash. To give you a bit of background, Arrow is a member of the Wind Dragons motorcycle club. Another member of the club is Rake. Rake’s sister, Anna, moves back to the area and falls for Arrow quite quickly. It almost felt like insta-love, maybe more so insta-lust. Their attraction was immediate but because of Anna having a brother in the club and Arrow having some major issues, they tried to fight their feelings.

What I enjoyed most was the club. I loved their closeness and how they always had each other’s back. I appreciated their self made family. It was also nice seeing the first couple from book one. It always great seeing how other couples are doing in future books within a series.

It was also fun getting a look into the rival motorcycle club. I’d love for them to get a book series as well. What can I say…I love motorcycle romances.

While I don’t agree with everything that went on in the book, I feel that’s pretty typical for stereotypical bikers and their relationships. Most women don’t take much of a role within except for the domesticated parts. I hated how Arrow didn’t trust Anna with some things. I get the club is involved in dangerous things so he doesn’t have to say very many details but come on, give her something to go with. Also Arrow had a habit of having women all over him or on his lap and he had “no idea” they were even there……seriously? I just didn’t buy it.

Overall, I liked having another couple added to the MC family but they just weren’t my favorite. I’ve mentioned my issues with Arrow and as far as Anna goes, she took some really stupid, unnecessary risks. I couldn’t believe half the mess she did. You’d think she would stop and think but nope….

I am excited to continue with this series and finally get to Tracker’s book. I’m hoping someone can tame him because he’s all over the place lol. Same goes for Rake, Anna’s brother. They both need their happily ever after.

Guess That Synopsis | 2

Guess that synopsis

I’m sure I’m not the first one to come up with this idea BUT I haven’t seen it floating around. I thought this would be a fun idea to try and guess what a book is about strictly based on the cover. If you or someone you know is already doing this, that’s 100% great!! I’m not trying to steal your thunder by any means. To my knowledge, I haven’t seen this so I came up with my own title and decided to post it. If you want to join in, feel free to do so 🙂

I’ll be grabbing books from Google, Goodreads, friends, etc. At the end of my guess, I’ll post what the book is actually about and see how close I was. Alright, let’s get started!!!

The Book:

Irish Crown

My Guess:

Okay, first off….*wipes drool off my chin* This cover is HOT!!!! I get the feeling this guy is a MMA fighter. I feel he’s this super bada$$ guy who everyone fears. I also think this is a romance and there will be a girl who maybe needs protection from an ex boyfriend or something??

Actual Synopsis:

It was one night together.

I wasn’t supposed to see him again.
I never thought I would.

And then, the six foot three cement graffiti wall of badass strides back into my life, and does it full force.
Now he’s protecting me from his past and I’m protecting myself against the heated chaos he erupts in my body. It doesn’t help that he can do playful and sweet, when he’s not doing bossy.

But the overly confident, playboy Deaglan Kane is danger, has no boundaries, and is totally off limits.

And I know behind his walls there’s a man with a dark and damaged past.
A man more dangerous. A man who may be the greatest threat of all.

The Irish Crown.

So….I didn’t quite nail this one lol!!! This IS a romance and he IS protecting her so I get partial credit right?!?!? Oh and it literally says he’s a bada$$ in the synopsis. More points for me!!! lol!!

Shout out to Nicole for providing me with the book for this week’s edition. Let me know what you think about this post in the comments below. Did you think I did a good job guessing the synopsis or was I totally off base in your opinion??

My Bookish Christmas List

Books are at the top of every bookworm’s Christmas list. I’m no exception to this and have quite a few books on my list this year. As most of you know, I’m making the switch to e-books from physical copies. This is due to eye issues and physical print causing me such painful headaches/migraines. I’m a huge fan of physical books otherwise but this is just what I have to do to continue with this hobby of mine. Kindles allow you to change the font, font size, backgrounds, etc. It’s just what I need these days so that’s why I’m making the switch.

With all that being said, I have quite a few books on my wishlist and since they’re usually cheaper than physical copies, I can get more bang for my buck!!

Here are the books in no particular order:

Kept by the Viking (Forgotten Sons, #1)

This book intrigues me so much!! Even though the cover makes it look like his head was photo-shopped onto that body….I still want to read this lol!!!

Getting Schooled (Getting Some, #1)

Yes I’ve read this one already BUT it was so amazing that I must have a personal copy. I could read this over and over.

Royally Yours (Royally, #4)

This series is soooo good by Emma Chase. I own all the books except for this one. Can’t wait to get to it!!

Secondhand Bride (McKettricks, #3)

This book and the next are part of a series that I fell in love with a long time ago. I could read these over and over too. Such an amazing historical romance series!! I own book 1 and 4 of this series so I need 2 and 3 🙂

Shotgun Bride (McKettricks, #2)

This is book three that I mentioned previously ^

A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3.1)

This series holds such a special place in my heart. I must have this to add to my collection. It’s top priority lol!! I just wish that price would drop because it’s currently $8.54

The Assassin's Blade (Throne of Glass, #0.1-0.5)

I’ve slowly been purchasing all of Sarah’s books and have 2 left to go. Do these ever go on sale?!! *sigh*

Park Avenue Prince

This author’s books are so hard to get a hold of. My library doesn’t have any, their Overdrive account doesn’t have any, I don’t see these at used book stores, etc. I only own one from her which is the first in this series called King of Wall Street.

R.S. Grey. I literally want to own every book this woman writes haha. I currently have Not so nice guy, Anything you can do, and The allure of Julian Lefray.

Only You (One and Only, # 1)

This is another author whose books are super hard to get my hands on. I have yet to read anything by her but I just know they’re going to be awesome.

Dearest Series Boxed Set (Dearest, #1-3)

Lastly, I found there was a boxed set for the Dearest series by Lex Martin. That’s definitely going on my wish list for this year. I read Reckless by this author and was BLOWN away.

Which books are you asking for this year? Let me know in the comments below or link me to your blog post if you’ve made one 🙂

Review: Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey

Hotshot Doc

Hotshot Doc by R.S. Grey

3 Stars

This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.

First off let me start by saying 3 stars is a solid rating. I know 3 stars gets a bad reputation but honestly, it’s still a great rating. For me 3 stars means that I liked it. I didn’t love it and I didn’t hate it. It was still a nice read but it just didn’t blow me away like the others I’ve read by this author. When I read R.S. Grey I anticipate a romantic comedy with plenty of steam. Hotshot was different from her usual writing that I’ve come to know and love. While it’s totally fine for the author to switch things up, I found myself missing those moments where I would laugh so hard that I had to close the book and regain composure. Or those moments when the book gets super steamy and you have that sly grin on your face hoping no one is looking at you.

For the first half of the book not much went on. I kept wanting to flip through the pages to get the story going. I also struggled with Dr. Russell aka Matt. He just didn’t do it for me. I kept wanting Bailey to move on and find someone else to connect with. Quick heads up:this is a slow burn romance. We really take our time getting to know the two main characters and learning about their lives before they dive into anything romantic. Once we got deeper into the story, I started to sympathize more with Matt. I realized why he was the way he was BUT I still wasn’t swooning over him. I just think he wasn’t the man for me sadly.

I loved Bailey, the other main character. She was such a sweetheart!! I loved how she put everyone else before her. It spoke so much to her character that she would raise her little sister and make sure she had everything she needed before even thinking about something for herself. I also felt bad for her at times because we all need someone to look after us from time to time too. It’s hard to always be the strong one or the one always making sacrifices.

The star of the book for me was Josie. Josie was Bailey’s little sister who loved to read and was desperate for her sister to find her happily ever after. I loved all the nosey questions she would rapid fire at Bailey and Matt. It was just plain adorable. I could also appreciate her love for Grey’s Anatomy. I would totally hang out with Josie any day!

Overall, I liked this story. The last portion of the book was the best part in my opinion. All these walls were broken down, we got to see the characters for who they truly were instead of who they felt they had to be. I would’ve liked to have seen more humor and steam but that’s just my opinion. Otherwise, it’s a great read that I think you will enjoy.

Queen of Shadows (Throne of Glass, #4)

In case you can’t tell, I’m in the process of getting all of Sarah’s books on e-book format. I’m not able to read physical print anymore so it’s super difficult/expensive to get everything transferred to e-book. I’m just buying a few at a time.

Here’s book three in the Savage Kings MC series. Also got this for .99
