Guess That Synopsis | 5

Guess that Synopsis

I’m sure I’m not the first one to come up with this idea BUT I haven’t seen it floating around. I thought this would be a fun idea to try and guess what a book is about strictly based on the cover. If you or someone you know is already doing this, that’s 100% great!! I’m not trying to steal your thunder by any means. To my knowledge, I haven’t seen this so I came up with my own title and decided to post it. If you want to join in, feel free to do so 🙂

I’ll be grabbing books from Google, Goodreads, friends, etc. At the end of my guess, I’ll post what the book is actually about and see how close I was. Alright, let’s get started!!!

The Book:

Reasonable Doubt: Volume 1 (Reasonable Doubt, #1)

My Guess:

Reasonable doubt and the fact the man is wearing a suit makes me think this is a lawyer romance. I think the man will be the lawyer and he will represent the love interest. I feel like all the evidence will point to her being guilty but together they solve the case together while falling in love. AWWWW lol.

Actual Synopsis:

My cock has an appetite.

A huge and very particular appetite: Blonde, curvy, and preferably not a fucking liar… (Although, that’s a story for another day.)

As a high profile lawyer, I don’t have time to waste on relationships, so I fulfill my needs by anonymously chatting and sleeping with women I meet online.

My rules are simple: One dinner. One night. No repeats.

This is only casual sex. Nothing more. Nothing less.

At least it was , until “Alyssa”…

She was supposed to be a 27 year old lawyer, a book hoarder, and completely unattractive. She was supposed to be someone I shared law advice with late at night, someone I could trust with details of my weekly escapades.

But then she came into my firm for an interview—a college-intern interview, and everything fucking changed…

My friend Deanna at A Novel Glimpse recommend this book for this week’s post. I’ll admit this cover didn’t give me much to go on but I think I did okay. I got the fact he was a lawyer right. The rest…..I pretty much failed on lol!!

I would love it if you guys left me some book titles for me to do on my next post!!! I pretty much failed at this round but I’m going to shake it off and prepare for the next round!!! Thank you Deanna for the rec!!!

Review: War by Lane Hart and D.B. West

War (Savage Kings MC #4)

War by Lane Hart and D.B. West

3 Stars

This is the fourth book in the Savage Kings series. I was excited to read War’s book from seeing him around in the previous stories. I will say he was a bit different from what I expected. He almost had this split personality. One minute was sweet, caring, affectionate….then he became almost cruel and calloused. I loved when he was being vulnerable and showing his softer side. When his uglier side came out….I wasn’t a fan. To give you some backstory, War (aka Warren O’Neil Sr.) had a son named Ren (Warren O’Neil Jr.). Ren’s mother was an addict and was never really involved in his life. War became closed off and completely gave up on finding love because he thought they were all like Ren’s mother, Marcie. This gave War major trust issues that we see throughout the book. While I understood why he was this way, it was quite hard seeing him take his problems out on Nova.

Nova McQueen is War’s love interest in this book. She’s fairly new to town and currently works as a social worker. This comes into play during the book but I won’t give away how. I felt quite bad for Nova’s character during the story. She seemed to always have the worst luck. Nova just couldn’t catch a break. I admire her determination with so many hardships in her life.

The romance in this was a bit of a let down. Once again, like in Torin’s book, it got a little kinker than I enjoy reading. Nothing major but it still wasn’t my cup of tea. I honestly don’t know how Nova put up with War sometimes. He was frustrating me and I wasn’t even having to deal with him personally lol. I’m downing War a bit but he honestly took care of his family. He was always there for his son and even took care of his little sister as her guardian when they were younger. I think over time War will let that guard down and these trust/attitude issues will go away.

Overall, I enjoyed the story and love seeing this world through each club member’s eyes. I also like the updates we have on previous couples running in the background. It’s nice checking in on them to see how their relationships are progressing.

March 2019 Favorites

I love sharing what my current favorites are with all of you. It’s also fun to look back at what my favorites were at different times in my life. I’m not sure if I’ll be posting these once a month or just whenever the need strikes me.

60’s R&B music

I’m on a huge 60’s R&B kick right now. Some of my favorites are:

  • When A Man Loves a Woman by Percy Sledge
  • Stand By Me by Ben E King
  • You Can’t Hurry Love by Diana Ross and the Supremes
  • (Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay by Otis Redding

Mint Medley Herbal Tea - Case of 6 boxes- total of 120 tea bags

I’ve finally found a tea that’s caffeine free that I enjoy!!! *dances* I throw a little sugar/honey in this and it’s sooo DELICIOUS!!!

I’m loving this new series that premiered in October 2018 by ABC. Such a great series that I hope sticks around for a very long time!

I’m reading and loving this motorcycle romance series by Lane Hart and D.B. West. They’re currently on Kindle Unlimited so if you’re into MC romances, definitely give this series a try!!!

Yard Work

This may seem strange to some of you lol!! I’m just loving getting out and doing different things in the yard. I’ve been pulling weeds, mowing, raking, etc. It’s also been a great source of exercise for me (which I definitely need more of). I’ve always been an indoors kind of person so it’s nice to get out and try something new!!

What are some of your recent favorites? What are you loving? Let me know in the comments below!!

Review: 365 Ways To Beat Stress by Adam Gordon

365 Ways to Beat Stress

365 Ways To Beat Stress by Adam Gordon

3 Stars

This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.

I’m a super stressful person with lots of anxiety. My “favorite” thing to do is worry. I’m trying my best here lately to calm down and de-stress. It’s definitely not easy by any means. I saw this book on Net Galley and quickly snatched it up. I’ll take all the help I can get when it comes to beating stress.

I learned quite a few things from this book. A lot I already knew but it’s nice to be reminded of simpler things we can do to help out. I will say, some of the ways felt like they were thrown in just to reach 365 differences. I would’ve preferred a fewer amount with more substance to them if that makes sense.

There’s no way I can list all my favorite tips from the book so I’ll just list a few.

  • Look forward, not backwards. This was nice because sometimes we only look at the past instead of focusing on the future and ways we can conquer it.
  • Decide to be happy. Now this one is tricky because I totally believe it’s not as simple as just “deciding” to be happy. I took this to mean, be aware of your emotions and try to look on the brighter side of things. Wake up and say “today will be a great day” and then try your best to make it a reality.
  • Write down your worries. I recently started an anxiety journal where I keep track of my worries, things to help me while I’m having a panic attack, etc. It’s really helped to write down these fears/worries and then it sort of releases it from my brain for a bit. It’s hard to explain but I hope you can try it and find relief.
  • Don’t jump to the worst case scenarios. I’m the queen of jumping to worst cases. I don’t even allow myself to think whatever is going on has a simple explanation/fix. It just goes to the MAX and I spiral from there.
  • Write a letter to yourself to read when anxious. Now this is cool!! I never thought of doing this and I definitely plan on writing a letter asap. It’s just nice for your calm self to tell you that everything will be okay. That whatever you’re going through is temporary. You’ll overcome this!
  • Make smaller goals. Take baby steps. Set goals you can easily reach. It doesn’t have to always be something major. Let yourself have the win.
  • Take eye breaks. This is something I’m learning to do more and more. Resting your eyes is soooo important. Eye strain is a real thing and being on electronics 24/7 isn’t the best for us.

There are plenty others that I enjoyed but I think that gives you a gist of what’s inside the book. If you pick up this book, I hope it helps you tremendously. Good luck with all your de-stressing!!!!

Down The TBR Hole | 1

Down the TBR hole.jpg

Down The TBR Hole is a meme, hosted by Lost in a Story, about organizing your TBR on Goodreads by deciding which books you want to keep, and which books you want to delete.

I recently went through my list and got rid of a ton of YA books that no longer interest me. Now I mainly have romance books left but I doubt I still want to read all that remains. Wish me luck as I go through them all one by one.

How it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books.
  • Read the synopses of the books.
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Do or Die (Reluctant Heroes #1)

This is a mammoth of a book with 576 pages. I do enjoy this author’s writing and military romances so it’s staying.

Verdict: Stay

The Invasion of the Tearling (The Queen of the Tearling, #2)

Even though this is technically Young Adult, book one didn’t feel like a typical Young Adult book. What I mean is, it wasn’t in a high school setting like most YA books.

Verdict: Stay

Kingdom of Ash (Throne of Glass, #7)

OF COURSE I want to read the last book for this series. I do want to re-read the others first. I’m hoping I don’t get spoiled. I’m honestly surprised it hasn’t happened yet.

Verdict: Stay

The Rose & the Dagger (The Wrath and the Dawn, #2)

This is another YA that doesn’t feel YA. I loved book one so much so I want to continue on with the duology. I can’t wait to see how it all wraps up.

Verdict: Stay

Everyone I’m friends with on Goodreads gave this 5 stars for the majority (except one gave it 4 stars). I gotta see what the fuss is all about!

Verdict: Stay

The Last Letter from Your Lover

I don’t do very well with flipping back and forth from the past to the present in my stories. I get so confused (I’m basic, what can I say?). I don’t think this interests me enough to keep.

Verdict: GO

Obsidian (Lux, #1)

I’m super torn with this one. The reviews are out of this world. It has a 4.21 overall rating on Goodreads. BUT is it something I would read and enjoy?! UGH!! I can’t decide…..I’m going to say no for now. BUT, feel free to change my mind in the comments below!!!

Verdict: GO

Sweet Evil (Sweet, #1)

I’m just not interested in this one anymore. Sorry!

Verdict: GO

Garnet's Story (The Lone City #1.25)

Here’s the deal, I loved this series. I have yet to read book 3 and by now, I’ve forgotten everything that happened in the first 2 books. Do I want to invest the time to go back and re-read them or do I just want to move on to other books? I think it’s time to move on crouton.

Verdict: GO

Sons of Anarchy: Bratva

I think this one can go. I get enough SOA from the TV series that I constantly re-watch 🙂

Verdict: GO

Books removed this week: 5

Total number of books removed: 5

Current number of books on my TBR: 943

It feels so nice to finally be going through my list!! Almost 1,000 books is just too overwhelming!!

Star Studded Saturday | Nicole picks my TV shows

Star Studded Saturday

This week’s topic: Nicole picks my TV shows

My friend Nicole over at Boundless Bookaholic and I love binging TV series. We decided that it would be fun to pick 5 TV shows for each other to try over the year. If we try an episode or two and find we just aren’t loving it, we can drop it. There’s no forcing anyone to watch something they just aren’t into. Be sure to check out my picks for Nicole on her page.

Here are the shows Nicole picked out for me:

*Clicking each image will take you to it’s IMDb page*

Breaking Bad Poster

I’ve tried to watch the pilot for this once before and couldn’t get into it. I’m told by several friends and family members that the show gets better as it goes on. I hope they’re right!!!

Gilmore Girls Poster

I’ve watched season 1 of Gilmore Girls and really don’t understand the hype for this series. Nicole wants me to watch season 2 and see if I change my mind about it. It’s cute don’t get me wrong, it’s just not OMG AHHHHHHH!

iZombie Poster

Totally not sure about this series lol!!!! I trust Nicole’s opinion though so hopefully she doesn’t steer me wrong HAHA!

Santa Clarita Diet Poster

I couldn’t even tell you what this series is about. All I know is Drew Barrymore almost died while filming this. EEK!!!!!!

The Crown Poster

This is the series I’m most excited to watch. I’ve been eyeballing this show for awhile now so I’m happy Nicole is giving me that extra push to watch!!!

Thank you for all the recs Nicole!! I know it wasn’t easy coming up with shows for me to try. I feel like I’ve watched everything that’s out there lol!!! I can’t wait to see what you think of the shows I picked for you!!!!

Book Blogger Hop | March 15th-21st

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog. Check out future prompts here.

This week’s topic:Do you use NetGalley, Edelweiss, both, or neither? (submitted by Elizabeth @Silver’s Reviews)

I use NetGalley quite often. Edelweiss is super hard to get approved for. At least that’s been my experience. Maybe my stats just aren’t good enough for that website yet. I will say I like that Edelweiss lets you give a reason for requesting that book. I feel you can explain yourself and have more of a chance to receive it.

Which do you prefer? Or do you use either service? If you don’t know what we’re referring to, I’ll leave some links below for you to check out.

Review: Torin by Lane Hart and D.B. West

Torin (Savage Kings MC #3)

Torin by Lane Hart and D.B. West

3 Stars

This is third book in the Savage Kings MC series and the reading order is:
Chase, Abe, and then Torin. I highly recommend reading the other books before starting this one.

Usually I love a protective man but Torin took it to a whole other level. Going through what Torin did in previous books I can understand why he felt the need to act this way, but I still couldn’t get on board with his antics.

The romance in this book was darker/kinker than I prefer as well. I enjoyed the previous two stories romance a lot more because of this. Torin liked always being in control and dominant so the love scenes weren’t very swoon worthy in my opinion. BUT to each their own.

Lexi Cruz was this strong, independent woman who could take care of herself. I loved how strong she was and that she didn’t need a man to provide for her. I don’t want to go into too many details about the story line because I feel it will give away too much. I think if you are a fan of motorcycle romances you should definitely give this series a try. I’m loving it so far and can’t wait to pick up the next brother’s story.

Top Ten Tuesday | Standalone Books That Need a Sequel

Top Ten Tuesday.jpg

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme previously hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week there’s a new topic for a top ten list.

This week’s topic is: Standalone Books That Need a Sequel

  • something that takes place after or as a result of an earlier event.

So to me, this could either be a continuation with the same characters or different characters within that same world just after the events of book one. Some of these I want a continuation to see how they live after book one, while others I want to see the other characters get a story.

*Click the book cover to go to it’s Goodreads page*

Ugly Love

Corbin MUST HAVE a story!!!! While reading this book I was more interested in Corbin than Miles. I think it was rumored that he was getting a story but you know how those rumors go.

Scoring Wilder

Here’s a two for one deal. I want a continuation with Kinsley and Liam but I also want a story about Kinsley’s bestie, Becca. This is my all time favorite RS Grey book and I haven’t been able to knock it off it’s pedestal just yet. I have faith in Rachel’s writing though!!

Most stories these days are about the two main characters working their way to each other. We see the buildup and then the curtain closes. I want to read what happens next. Sure to others it may be a mundane life but I think there’s plenty of opportunities to have an exciting story!!!

The Hardest Fall

THIS story right here…..was everything. I will say the epilogue gave me everything I wanted. It showed me what happened next and I will forever be grateful BUT the author did TOO good of a job. NOW I want MOREEEEEEEEE. I could read about this couple for a very long time.

Getting Schooled (Getting Some, #1)

Garrett Daniels. Excuse me while I swoon. This was another top book for me. It also gave me a bit of the conclusion I’m always seeking but I want MORE!! If I can’t have another with these two, I’d love for all the Daniels’ brothers to get a story. I was a bit disappointed when I saw that the next book didn’t feature one of Garrett’s brothers. I still have hope though!

Defy (Sinners of Saint, #0.5)

Jamie totally deserved a longer story!!! This was just way too fast!!! I’m new to this author and this series so maybe there is a full length book for Jamie out there that I’m unaware of? Please tell me there is!

If I Only Knew

Here’s another couple I could read about forever and ever. I’d love to hear this narrator (Shane East) talk about the most mundane tasks. They could be folding laundry and that would make me happy lol!!

Maybe Someone Like You

In this book we had Katie who was coming into her own. She was super shy and would blush bright red whenever talking to a cute guy. I really saw her character grow throughout this story. It’d be nice to see how she’s doing.

The Beau & the Belle

This book was told in the past and the present. I didn’t enjoy the past because of their age gap so I would love to get a full book from the present time. I also feel we could’ve gotten a better closing in this one. There’s just more to their story!!

Not So Nice Guy

With friends to lovers stories it can take awhile for the two friends to actually accept there’s more to their relationship. With that being said, I NEED more from this couple. I hated to say goodbye when their story was over. It was seriously the whole package. It had romance, humor, steam, cuteness, etc.
