Need another break

So, I hate to do this again but I’ve got to step back for a bit. I’m dealing with heart palpitations constantly and tremendous amounts of anxiety. I can’t read or work on blog posts at this time. It’s just added stress for me. So I’m going to take a hiatus and be back as soon as I can. I could use all the prayers and support. Thank you guys!

ARC August 2019 ARC + TBR

I’ve seen ARC August floating around the reading world for awhile now. This year I’ll finally be joining in on the fun!!! I have several ARCs on Net Galley and Edelweiss that I need to get to so this works out perfectly. This challenge is hosted by Read.Sleep.Repeat. Be sure to check out their sign up page and blog.

Do I have to be a blogger to participate?
Nope! As long as you have access to Advanced Reader Copies (bookselling, librarianship, won giveaways, etc.) you can join!

How long does the challenge last?
The challenge starts right on August 1st and ends August 31st. We are not particular on time zone so it starts whenever August starts/ends for you.

Do the ARCs have to be from this year?
No, you can read any ARC you’d like!

Do the books have to be physical ARCs?
They do not! Digital copies totally count as well!

What hastag should be used?

Keeping in mind that I’m a total mood reader and I may not end up reading the books on this list BUT I’m going to see how it goes. Here are a few of the ARCs I PLAN on getting to in the month of August.

The Nanny Rules

Release Date: August 12th, 2019

Discretion (The Dumonts, #1)

Release Date: August 6th, 2019

The Friend Zone

Release Date: June 11th, 2019

The Cowboy Next Door (Montana Strong, #2)

Release Date: February 26th, 2019

Kings of Mayhem (Kings of Mayhem MC, #1)

Release Date: January 28th, 2019

I also have some other ARCs that I’ll be receiving in August so not sure I’ll get to all of these. I’m going to try my hardest though 🙂 I wish everyone participating the best of luck!!! I’m so happy to be joining in for the first time!!! EEK!! I’m super excited!

Review: Dirty Flirty Enemy by Piper Rayne

Dirty Flirty Enemy (White Collar Brothers #2)

Dirty Flirty Enemy by Piper Rayne

4 Stars

This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.

I couldn’t wait for Carmelo Manicini’s story while reading book one in this trilogy. He’s this cocky guy with confidence for days. I could tell he had some type of commitment issue based on never wanting a relationship longer than one night. I just knew there was more to Carm than we could see at the time.

I loved getting to know Carm more and more and seeing why he acted the way he did. There was more to him than the cocky jerk who was always down for a one night stand. Deep down he was the sweetest guy. His ma would be proud lol.

Bella Scott was one tough cookie. I could also tell throughout reading the story that she had gone through a lot in her life. I looked forward to getting her backstory. I will say these two were both headstrong individuals so this made for a slow burn romance. Slow burns KILL me. I kept wanting them to get together but the authors made me wait for it.

Overall this was a great story. It mentioned the previous book’s couple a lot which I really appreciated. It also had a ton of great relationships throughout the story with friends as well as the brothers. I can’t wait to read Dom’s book coming up next.

Best Book You’ve Read Yet in 2019

In Bed with a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #1)

I could not put this book down. It was beyond entertaining and keeps you on your toes the entire time. I fell in love with the McCabe clan and never wanted to leave their world.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2019

Tracker's End (Wind Dragons MC, #3)

So… I took sequel to mean anything following book one. If that’s not true then……oh well lol!!! This is book 3 in the Wind Dragons series. I swooned massively over Tracker. His looks and personality reminded me of Jax from Sons of Anarchy so it’s no wonder he’s my newest book boyfriend.

New Release You Haven’t Read But Want To

Pretty Reckless (All Saints High, #1)

This was a highly anticipated book for this year but I just haven’t had time to read it yet. No idea what’s taking me so long. Maybe I’ll read it next?

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of 2019

Dirty Charmer (The Bodyguards, #1)

If Emma Chase writes it, I’ll read it lol!!! I loved her Royals series so much!

Biggest Disappointment

Roping the Cowboy (Circle B Ranch, #1)

I’m super disappointed that this book wasn’t for me. I felt the two main characters, Kat and Braxton,  were very immature and acted very childish. I also never felt a connection between these two.

Biggest Surprise

The Dark Ones (The Dark Ones Saga #1)

This story was very entertaining. The twists and turns were just perfect and made it really hard to put the book down. I read it in a day and a half. That’s very unusual for me.

Favorite New Author

If I Only Knew (Second Time Around, #4)

Corinne Michaels is a new to me author. I wasn’t sure if the prompt wanted a debut author or just someone new to me so I went with this. The romance in this was amazing. I even teared up while reading this one. It will steal your heart and make you feel warm, ooey gooey feelings. I highly recommend giving this book, series, and author a chance. I hope you feel half of what I do for them!!

Newest Fictional Crush

In Bed with a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #1)

This is the latest book I’ve finished and Ewan McCabe is 100% on my book boyfriend list. Right at the top as a matter of fact lol!!

Newest Favorite Character

Baby Mine: Hunter & Lennon, #1 (Roommate Duet, #1)

Hunter really showed himself as being a stand up character. He had feelings for his best friend’s girlfriend but he didn’t let that come between their friendship. He stepped aside and let their relationship flourish. It was really hard seeing how much he cared for Lennon but couldn’t be with her.

Book That Made You Cry

Eleanor & Grey
This story made me believe in soul mates that much more than I already did. Stories like this one just seals the deal for me. Ellie and Grey didn’t have the easiest of times throughout this story. They each were affected by loss and I loved how they always found each other when the other needed them the most. It was truly beautiful to read.

Book that Made You Happy

Make Me Bad

Madison Hart worked at her local library as head of the Children’s department. Madison was your typical bookworm. She loved reading and was excellent at her job. This book was about her coming out of her shell and I was beyond happy for her. She deserved the world and more!

Favorite Book to Film Adaptation

After (After, #1)

I planned on reading this before I watched the movie but it just didn’t happen. I loved the movie and I’m currently listening to the audio book as we speak 😀

Favorite Post This Year

Let’s Talk About Anxiety

If this post helped even one person, it would make my world. So many of us struggle with anxiety and it’s such a heavy thing to carry around. I hope something I listed helped others when dealing with an attack or difficult time.

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought This Year

Getting Schooled (Getting Some, #1)

I mean……..

What Book(s) Do You Need to Read By the End of the Year

The Goal (Off-Campus, #4)

Just going to list the one book because honestly….I could put my entire Net Galley book list on here lol!!!

Memorable Titles That Start With “S”

Shadow and Bone (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy, #1)

It was awesome! I loved every single one of the characters. The Darkling was a perfect villain. I still believe he has a good side, we just may never see it.

Stolen Songbird (The Malediction Trilogy, #1)

I haven’t read a book like this in a very long time. I wasn’t sure about it at first because I’ve never read a book about trolls. I was VERY skeptical but let me tell you…….I picked up this book and could not put it down.

The Score (Off-Campus, #3)

Never judge a book by its cover. Or in this case a man by his reputation. I LOVED DEAN!!!

Books Starting With “S” On My TBR

Sacked (Gridiron, #1)

I haven’t read a book by Jen as the sole writer. I’m excited to see what I think.

Say You'll Stay

Corinne is quickly becoming a top favorite author of mine. I’m loving all her books!

The Sleepwalker

I thought I’d switch things up and throw a thriller in here. I’m excited to try this author. This book sounds very interesting.

Review: Bring Down the Stars by Emma Scott

Bring Down the Stars (Beautiful Hearts, #1)

Bring Down the Stars by Emma Scott

4 Stars

This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.

“Maybe pain exists to make us appreciate the beauty. Or maybe pain is just pain, and we romanticize the heck out of it to make it survivable.”

“Feelings,” I said, “are like tonsils. Mostly useless, and occasionally a source of pain and discomfort.”

I’m listening to Adele sing “to make you feel my love” on YouTube and it’s perfect for this book. What happens when two best friends fall for the same girl? Does one bow out and let the other have a chance? Or do you let your feelings for someone ruin your friendship? That was the choice Weston Turner had to make. Ultimately he decided to let his best friend have the girl. This book was unlike anything I’ve ever read before. My heart hurt so much for Weston. You could see how deeply he cared for Autumn but he wouldn’t do anything to hurt Connor.

Connor Drake is this all American guy who always had a huge smile on his face and would make everyone around him laugh and smile. Weston is quite the opposite. He didn’t come from a wealthy family and has had quite a lot of struggles in his life. I loved Connor and Weston’s friendship. Yes, they were opposites but somehow it worked. They had each other’s backs no matter what. That’s why Weston had no problems backing away from Autumn.

Weston was a really deep, emotional character. He loved writing, it was an outlet for him. That’s how he got his feelings out without putting them into a person who could potentially hurt him. With that being said, Weston did have a lot of love for Connor, his best friend. It was really awesome to see their connection throughout the story. They were truly like brothers.

Autumn Caldwell came from a small farm in Nebraska. She always wanted to go out and make a difference in the world so she went to college to pursue that. I love how down to earth Autumn was. She was this super sweet girl who wore her heart on her sleeve. Seeing how passionate she was for others and the environment was the best.

Overall, this was a heart warming story. It goes deeper than the stereotypical love triangle. I’m very much looking forward to the second book in this duet to see what happens next!

Nicole picks my TBR

My friend Jessica and I decided to give each other three book recommendations that we wanted the other person to finally read in 2019. We have a habit of telling the other person to read certain books (usually over and over again), and then we don’t get around to it due to other obligations/priorities. We were going to do five (like we did for TV shows), but that seemed a little ambitious for us right now. My list has changed since we first brought up doing this, but below are my final selections:

First Book – Three Blind Dates by Meghan Quinn

I absolutely LOVED this book. It was my first book from Meghan, and got me hooked on her writing. I don’t normally re-read books very often, but I’ve read this twice now already (ebook and audio). I can’t wait to see what Jessica thinks of this book, author, and also the rest of the trilogy. Fingers crossed she’s as obsessed as I am!

Second Book – Rush by Kandi Steiner

I signed up for ARCs of the first four books when Legacy was about to be released, and read all of them in less than a month. I’m not super into drama, but this had a good balance while keeping me on the edge of my seat sometimes. I was addicted to the “episodes” like this was a juicy soap opera focused on college students.

Third Book – Let’s Get Textual by Teagan Hunter

I don’t remember the last time I laughed this hard from a book. I literally couldn’t listen to this at work, because I’d burst out laughing at random moments, and people would have thought I was losing my mind. This was my first book by this author, but I’ve already finished book two in the series, and can’t wait to continue.

Other books I was considering initially for this list were The Goal and The Chase by Elle Kennedy, and Lessons from a One-Night Stand by Piper Rayne. The Elle Kennedy ones because I wanted Jessica to do a little catching up before The Play (book 3 in the Briar U series) comes out later this year, but she has both of those on her summer TBR. The Piper Rayne one because I wanted her to try this duo of authors, and The Baileys has been my favorite series so far; however she read Sexy Filthy Boss by them last month (and loved it), so I felt less of a need to add it.

Check out Jessica’s picks for me here.

Top Ten Tuesday | Alpha Males

Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme previously hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Every week there’s a new topic for a top ten list.

This week’s topic is: Character Freebie. I decided to list ten alpha males for today’s prompt. I tried really hard to not name the same ones I usually do. But I, of course, had to mention Cassian though. He will always be on any alpha males list of mine lol.

A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #2)

Tracker's End (Wind Dragons MC, #3)

The Score (Off-Campus, #3)

Sons of Anarchy Vol. 1

Shadow and Bone (The Shadow and Bone Trilogy, #1)

The Darkling

Defy (Sinners of Saint, #0.5)

The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1)

Blood Type (Blood Type, #1)

In Bed with a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #1)

Not So Nice Guy

To me alphas are protective, confident, loyal, strong, passionate,  etc. Yes, they may be hot headed and stubborn at times but they are always looking out for those they care for. Alphas are my go to type of guys. I will swoon so hard over a man taking care of and protecting his family. There is nothing more attractive I swear.

Let me know your thoughts on these characters if you’ve read any of these books. If you haven’t, click their book covers to read their Goodreads synopsis. Also leave your TTT posts below for me to check out 🙂

Review: In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks

In Bed with a Highlander (McCabe Trilogy, #1)

In Bed with a Highlander by Maya Banks

5 Stars

Absolutely LOVED this story. I did not want it to end whatsoever. This was the first book I’ve read by the author but she more than hooked me with this one!!! I loved all the twists and turns within the story. I gasped so many times reading this. I’m talking hand over my mouth in utter shock. I cannot say enough good things about this book and the writing.

Our main characters Mairin Stuart and Ewan McCabe were two people to be remembered. Mairin led a very sheltered life due to having to hide her true identity from those who sought to steal her inheritance. With that being said, at times Mairin was too much for me. She would do things that no one would dream of doing. BUT I always went back to her being secluded and not having a lot of experience socializing etc. I was able to look past those moments because of that. Otherwise I enjoyed her character a lot, this woman gave everything she had no matter the circumstances. If she was angry, you 100% knew about it. If she loved someone, she loved fiercely with her entire being. The list goes on and on.

Ewan McCabe was laird for the McCabe clan. He was what most stereotypical warriors are like. Strong, alpha, protective, etc. I didn’t mind his protectiveness because it was for a purpose. He was in charge of the entire clan. Their safety and well being was in his hands. What Ewan said goes, without question. Mairin didn’t too much care for that but I enjoyed their banter back and forth over it.

The relationships in this one was also a major bonus for me. Mairin had some of the strongest bonds throughout the story. Her relationship with Ewan’s son Crispen was…..just absolutely beautiful. You would have no idea that she wasn’t his biological mother. It was adorable watching them grow closer and closer. Mairin also made tight friendships with the ladies around the keep. I looked forward to their conversations. Ewan also had a great relationship with his two brothers Alaric and Caelen. They would lay their life down for one another without hesitation.

Overall, I could not put this book down. It was beyond entertaining and keeps you on your toes the entire time. I fell in love with the McCabe clan and never wanted to leave their world. I can’t wait to read the brothers stories in the rest of the trilogy.
