Down The TBR Hole | 5

Down The TBR Hole is a meme, hosted by Lost in a Story, about organizing your TBR on Goodreads by deciding which books you want to keep, and which books you want to delete.

I recently went through my list and got rid of a ton of YA books that no longer interest me. Now I mainly have romance books left but I doubt I still want to read all that remains. Wish me luck as I go through them all one by one.

How it works:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books.
  • Read the synopses of the books.
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

The SEAL's Secret Lover (Alpha Ops, #1)

I love me some military romances so this one is staying for sure.

Verdict: Stay

After You (Me Before You, #2)

Book one was a really great read. I really want to continue with this series and see what happens after book one ended.

Verdict: Stay

Settling the Score (The Summer Games, #1)

If RS Grey writes it, I’ll read it.

Verdict: Stay

Blank 133x176

Untitled

Kind of strange that book 5 is ahead of book 4….kinda bugs me…

Fly With Me (Wild Aces, #1)

Remember me loving military romances? It’s still true.

Verdict: Stay

The World of Throne of Glass

I’m excited to see what all this book entails.

Verdict: Stay

Tower of Dawn (Throne of Glass, #6)

I’m in the process of trying to find this series in audio. It’s not easy because Audible seems to have the exclusive.

Verdict: Stay

Rookie Move (Brooklyn Bruisers, #1)

I mean….look at the cover….

Verdict: Stay

Review: Cruel Sanctuary by Tara Leigh

Cruel Sanctuary (The Wages of Sin Duet, #1)

Cruel Sanctuary by Tara Leigh

2 Stars

This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.

This wasn’t the story for me. I understand this had a darker theme and the author was going for an antihero type of guy but it just didn’t work. He was way too controlling and possessive in my opinion. I had issues with the whole watching her before he even met her, wanting to claim her before he knew her, etc. It was just too much for me.

This story also features insta-love which I’m not a huge fan of. These characters fall for each other (one did before they even laid eyes on each other) so fast that it’ll leave you scratching your head wondering what’s going on.

Aislinn Granville is the daughter of district attorney James Granville. James is also planning to run for mayor in the near future. Aislinn is a political strategist so she quits her job to help her father on the campaign trial. Things happen and Aislinn ends up being in the crosshairs for some not so nice guys. This is where bad boy Damon King comes into play. He’s known as the King who handles just about everything in the city. He’s built quite a reputation and everyone knows not to mess with him.

The problem with Damon is him being obsessed with Aislinn. It mentions him spying on her through her laptop among other things that just creeped me out. I liked how he had all this power and did anything and everything he could to protect Aislinn but the rest of him…..I could do without.

Overall, this story had potential. I just needed Damon toned down and less stalker vibes.

Review: The Perfect First by Maya Hughes

The Perfect First

The Perfect First by Maya Hughes

5 Stars

This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.

The Perfect First is book one in the Fulton U series. This book blew me away just like Maya’s other series, Kings of Rittenhouse. I’m falling more and more for this author’s writing with each book I pick up.

The Perfect First follows Persephone Alexander as she makes a list of firsts that she wants to complete while in college. Persephone aka Seph grew up with a very strict father who didn’t let her do much of anything besides studying. Seph decided to go to college away from her father to experience things on her own for once. I loved seeing her come out of her shell and become who she was always meant to be.

One of the firsts that Seph wanted to complete was losing her virginity. How does she go about this you may ask…..WELL, this girl decides to put out an online ad. This is where we meet our second main character, Reece Michaels. Reece is this all american guy. He’s a star football player and everyone wants a piece of him in some way or another. I loved how these two came from different worlds but meshed so well together. It was so sweet seeing him helping her complete items off her list.

Watching these two become friends and then seeing it blossom into something more was super cute to watch. I appreciated that they became friends first and didn’t rush head first into anything right away. Reece and Seph helped each other in things the other was lacking. Seph taught Reece to slow down and enjoy all these life events while he showed her how to take risks and not over analyze every single thing in life.

Overall, this was a super cute read. The romance was hot, the friendships were perfect, and the villains were awful. I cannot wait for book two to come around so I can jump back into this world.

Review: Baby Mine by Kennedy Fox

Baby Mine: Hunter & Lennon, #1 (Roommate Duet, #1)

Baby Mine by Kennedy Fox

4 Stars

This review is for an ARC and is my unbiased, honest opinion.

Baby Mine centers around a group of friends but heavily features three characters in particular. Hunter Manning, Brandon Locke, and Lennon Corrigan. Hunter and Brandon are the best of friends and also roommates. One night while at a bar, Hunter was bartending and met the lovely Lennon. Sparks flew and you could just feel their connection bouncing off the pages. However, one thing led to another and Lennon went home with Brandon, not Hunter. This is where our story begins.

Lennon was the sweetest character. I really enjoyed reading about her and seeing her relationships with her sisters, Sophie and Maddie. They all had the cutest bond. It was also fun to see them all involved in music through one way or another. You could tell it was an important part of their upbringing.

Hunter Manning struggled throughout this book. He had these feelings for Lennon but was unable to pursue them because of his best friend Brandon. Talk about being in a difficult position. I think he handled it quite well overall. I have no idea what I would’ve done in that predicament. Hunter was quite close with his brother Hayden, whom we met in the novella Forever Mine. I highly recommend reading that before starting this series. Those two also shared a special bond and were constantly leaning on each other to get through some difficult situations.

I recommend going into this book without reading the synopsis. If you read it, then you know a major plot that’s coming and you’re constantly on edge waiting for it to happen. It’s best to go in blind and enjoy the story without any background information. Baby Mine has some great relationships and it also deals with some deeper issues at the same time. It was my first full book by this author duo and I was very impressed to say the least. This book left my jaw hanging open so I cannot wait to get my hands on the follow up book, Baby Yours.

Guess That Synopsis | 7

Guess that synopsis

I’m sure I’m not the first one to come up with this idea BUT I haven’t seen it floating around. I thought this would be a fun idea to try and guess what a book is about strictly based on the cover. If you or someone you know is already doing this, that’s 100% great!! I’m not trying to steal your thunder by any means. To my knowledge, I haven’t seen this so I came up with my own title and decided to post it. If you want to join in, feel free to do so 🙂

I’ll be grabbing books from Google, Goodreads, friends, etc. At the end of my guess, I’ll post what the book is actually about and see how close I was. Alright, let’s get started!!!

The Book:

The Right Stud

My Guess:

What a cover!!! *drools* lol!! I’m going to go with this being an office romance. Maybe this guy is the love interest’s boss and they have this intense chemistry?! OR maybe the guy is a co-worker and into the girl but she’s not interested in possibly ruining her career??

Actual Synopsis:

“The best way to get over your sh**ty ex-fiancé is to get under a shiny new stud…”

As soon as Mr. Tall, Blond, and Handsome walks into that bar, I know he’s the hook-up I need to get over stupid Cheater Kyle.

A few stolen kisses in a dark hallway, and I’m pretty sure we’re headed for a home run—until he disappears without a trace.

Whatever. Men are all snakes in the grass, and I don’t need a new one anyway.

I resolve to forget about his perfect lips (and chest of steel) and instead focus on turning my Granny’s old beach house into a profitable B&B.

What I don’t expect is for him to show up the next day in my kitchen!

You see, my sexy mystery man is none other than Jax Roland, the drop-dead gorgeous home improvement star of The Right Stud, and he’s got an offer I can’t refuse.

With a suitcase in one hand and a hammer in the other, he wants to move in and renovate my old house while he films his new show.

But my roommate has secrets, and they threaten to rip our blossoming friendship—and possible love—apart.

When push comes to shove, is Jax really The Right Stud or is he just another nail in the coffin of love?

Verdict:

DARN!! I was way off on this one!! I would’ve never guessed he fixed up houses. Stud should’ve been a clue. Well rats!! Better luck next time folks!!!

Book Blogger Hop | April 19th – 25th

Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog. Check out future prompts here.

This week’s topic: Do you check how many views your posts have received? (submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

Not always. Sometimes I’ll go check my stats to see how I’m doing overall. I don’t want it to be something that consumes me. I blog because I enjoy it and love interacting with fellow bloggers/readers/TV watchers/etc. It’s very easy in this community to get wrapped up with stats/followers/numbers but I try very hard to just go with the flow. We all have our own pace and are at different stages with blogging. As long as you are having fun, that’s all that matters!
